Typography which connotes the usage form of the typefaces in all graphic design studies is a concept which is supported by various approaches in the graphic design history. The concept of typography in the current contemporary design environment is responsible for maintaining this mission taken from history by further improving.
In this article, it was attempted to examine the forms of use of the typography in the current design environment from all their aspects in line with the principles which the modern art brought into the graphic design in the historical process, as it will be understood from the discussion purpose of the article in this context; typographic design approaches of our present-day were evaluated in a critical approach over the positive and negative examples in terms of the creativity principles. In the graphic art, developing an ability to turn the more developed theories into better designs will provide very important contributions into the typography understanding within the scope of the contemporary design and creativity researches, by taking the methods of creating design principles of the historical accumulation as a basic reference.
While the meeting of the current typography practices with contemporary design and basic principles of the creativity in terms of the graphic arts will enable new understandings and new design products to emerge in the designing methods, it will allow these understandings to transform into new theories. The information and critical elements expressed in this article are “scientifically” associated with aspects of the creativity which require ability in terms of the design concept. In this context, discussion of the current typographic practices in line with the theoretical and practical principles foreseen in the article will raise the level of the graphic design studies. Within this framework, the current design problems are directly associated with the current creativity problems essentially.
