Abstract


EFFECT OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROGRAM ON MOTIVATION, ASSERTIVENESS AND ATTENTİON LEVELS OF STUDENTS AGES 15-18

The aim of this study is to investigate 8-week swimming training has an effect on the motivation, assertiveness and attention levels of 15-18 age high school students in Adapazarı district of Sakarya province. For this purpose, 100 students from Fatih Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and Private Şahin Anatolian High School in Sakarya Province voluntarily participated and student groups in both schools were divided into experimental and control groups. Sports Specific Success Motivation Scale, Rathus Assertiveness Inventory and Burdon Attention Scale were applied to the students in both schools as pre and post-test. The data obtained in the study which was conducted with an experimental and sequential design method were analyzed in SPSS program and the significance level was taken as 0.05. Mann Whitney U-test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test were used in the independent groups to compare the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental and control groups. As a result of the study, a statistically significant difference was found between the motivation of the experimental group, pre-test results, post-test results, post-test results of the experimental group and post-test results of the control group. In the assertiveness inventory results, a statistically significant difference was observed between the assertiveness pre-test and post-test results of the experimental group and the post-test results of the experimental group and post-test results of the control group. A statistically significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental group's attention level and post-test results of the experimental group and post-test results of the control group. No statistically significant difference was found between the pretest and experimental groups' pre-test and motivation, assertiveness and attention levels. The results of the research show that 8-week swimming training has a positive effect on the motivation, assertiveness and attention levels of high school students.
