Abstract


THE POLITICAL STRUCTURE OF THE BYZANTINE EMPIREON THE PERIOD OF AMORIUM DYNASTY (820-867)

Following the killing of the Emperor V. Leo Armenians (813-820), a period was closed in Byzantium and the imperial throne was passed to II. Michael (820-829) who is the instigator of Leo.The dynasty, which started with this emperor, ruled the Byzantine Empire for about half a century.Since II. Michael is from the Amoriumcity of the Phrygia region, the dynasty he founded is referred to as the Phrygian or Amorium dynasty.Thomas Rebellion is the leading of the problems that II. Michael has encountered at a time when he was only just passed the throne.Slav Thomas is at the head of this rebellion wave that has started in Anatolia.Thomas, who aims to dethrone the Emperor, has also begun a great rebellion in this direction.This rebel, supported by a part of the people, has succeeded in holding the capital by the army and keeping it under blockade for six months.However, II. Michael, who also supported by the Bulgarians, succeeded in suppressing this rebellion.In the II. Michael period, besides the problems in the interior, the empire faces serious problems in the abroad and loses power.However, confrontedproblems were not limited to this emperor's time.
