Recently, use of social media and habit of selfie is increasingly popular trend among young people. This phenominon stands as a topic worth researching. The fact that the topic requires a survey of a large scale makes it necessary to focus on a limited scope. Therefore, the scope of study was limited to the students of Namık Kemal University. The research method used was quantitative and the data were collected through a questionnaire. Random sampling method was preferred and the data collected were composed of the responses to the questionnaire of 241 respondents (125 female and 116 male students) and our observations in this framework. According to the findings, all of the students – though some of whom were inactive – use social media and share selfies. Instagram was found to be the most preferred kind of social media. In great majority of the selfies happy moments were shared whereas in social media profiles the account owners used their own photographs. Use of social media and the habit of selfie which depends on this use follows a process which transforms into addiction. Although there are some differences based on gender regarding the questionnaire responses, mostly similar attitudes were found to be exhibited.
