Özet

Urban vitality and urban decay are key factors that directly influence a city’s physical, social, economic, and cultural structure. Analyzing these factors and converting them into quantitative data ensures that planning decisions and urban renewal processes are more reliable. The aim of this study is to develop a practical method for quantifying and spatially mapping indicators of urban vitality and decay at the grid cell level using Geographic Information System (GIS)-based methods. The study area is the Şemsi Tebrizi Neighborhood in the Selçuklu district of Konya Province. This neighborhood measures approximately 600 × 600 meters. Using a grid system, 1,783 cells measuring 15 × 15 meters were defined within this area. As part of the research, three selected indicators active facade ratio, target accessibility, and point of interest density were analyzed using QGIS software. Appropriate spatial analysis methods were applied for each parameter, and the resulting data were scored on a scale of 1 to 5 for standardization. Spatial maps were created based on the scores obtained. The maps highlight spatial variations within the study area and identify regions that stand out in terms of urban vitality and decline. The method developed enables the joint evaluation of different data types within a cell-based analysis system. In conclusion, this study presents a methodological framework based on a GIS-based cell-scale analysis approach that serves as an effective method for quantifying and mapping indicators of urban vitality and decline, and can be applied in similar studies in other cities in the future.
