THE EFFECTS OF THE PANDEMIC PROCESS ON "UNIVERSAL DESIGN" PRINCIPLES

Abstract

The epidemic of COVID-19, which emerged at the end of 2019 and affected the world in the first quarter of 2020, revealed
that social lifestyles could change at any time. The concepts of "social distance", "personal isolation", "quarantine",
"disinfection", which entered our lives with the epidemic, have changed the daily life routines to a great extent. The use of
space and object oriented design products have been transformed during the epidemic. This transformation and change of life
habits will lead to the demolition of a number of stereotypes that have existed before the epidemic period and to set standards
suitable for the new conditions. In this article, the definition, scope and application principles of the concept of "universal
design" are examined. These are followed by determinations made on how these principles could change or developed during
the epidemic process and afterwards on behalf of the “new normal” conditions.
