In this study, Edward Chace Tolman's Theory, which was developed as a result of his work on mice, initially called “Purposeful Behaviourism” and later changed it to “Sign – Gestalt”, was investigated. In this study, after giving information about Tolman's Sign – Gestalt Theory, the reflections of this theory on education and criticism of theory were mentioned. In this study, qualitative research designs were used to scan the literature. In this study, as the main reasons for Tolman's handling of the Sign – Gestalt Theory developed by Tolman, Tolman's attempt to synthesize the Gestalt Theory with behavior, and his rejection of the fragment approach proposed by the behavior, can be shown to speak of a purpose in the behavior. As a result of the study, criticism of the Sign – Gestalt theory is presented as a whole
