Abstract

Novels written in the genre of chicken literature (chick-lit), known as the new women's fiction, are works written by women writers for female readers. These works, which are known to have emerged in the mid-1990s and are considered among the products of popular culture, gained a great reputation by being translated into many languages. At this point, the importance of translation should be emphasized because translation plays an important role in introducing various literary genres that emerged in different societies and cultures to different societies and in the creation of new works in these genres in different societies. Just like in other literary genres, chick-lits were also introduced to the Turkish literary system through translations and started to be mentioned as “piliç edebiyatı” “çıtır edebiyatı” or “çik-lit” in our country. In fact, since the works reach many readers through translation, new novels written in this genre have also been introduced to the Turkish literary system.

In the context of all these, this study firstly aims to provide information about chick lits and books written in this genre, which have recently reached different audiences by being transferred to different cultures all over the world through translation. In addition, how the genre emerged and the books written in this genre, the features that distinguish this genre from other genres, and some criticisms directed against this genre will be mentioned. At the same time, the effect of translation in introducing the books written in this genre to Turkish literature will be explained, and the best-known examples of this genre will also be mentioned.
