A RESEARCH ON INTERPERSONAL PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ACCORDING TO THEIR SOCIOMETRIC STATUES

The goal of this research is to find out whether interpersonal problem-solving skills and sociometric status of high students
vary according to their gender, educational level of their parents and their accommodation place. The participants are composed
of 457 students who study at province five different high schools in Bingöl during the 2014-2015 academic year. While 250 of
the participants are female, 207 of them are male. The participants were chosen through ‘‘simple sampling method’’. In the
order to find out the problem solving skills of the participant was conducted ‘‘Interpersonal Problem Solving Skills Inventory’’.
Additionally, ‘‘Sociometric Status Test’’ was conducted to determine their status in their classrooms. Finally, ‘‘Personal
Characteristics Questionnaire’’ was carried out to data pertinent to their variables. İndependent samples test, one-way variant
analysis, Pearson product-moment correlation analysis and Tukey test were used to analyse the data. The results of the research
show that there is a meaningful and positive directed relationship between the participant’s sociometric grades and the subdimensions of their positive approach ward problem. According to the finding, it can be claimed that the students who have
high sociometric statues grades also have positive attitudes towards interpersonal problems. Besides, the results also show that there is significant differentiation between the gender, school grade, school type, educational level of their participant parent’s
accommodation type of the students and their interpersonal problem solving skills sub-dimensions. On the other hand, there is
no significant differentiation between the gender, grade, school type, educational level of the participant parent’s
accommodation places of the students and their sociometric status.
