Abstract

In this study based on qualitative research methodology; It is aimed to examine the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills Training (DBT-BE) experiences of young individuals with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) with interpretive phenomenological analysis (YFA). University students aged 20-25 years, who were diagnosed with PCOS by a gynecologist and obstetrician, were given DBT-BE training for twelve weeks; also after training; According to the YFA method, face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted.

As a result of deciphering the interviews, three upper themes and twelve sub-themes were discovered. Three main themes are defined as 'My PCOS journey', 'I View Life from a Dialectical Window' and 'A New Beginning in My Life'. Participants; during the interview, told about their experiences with PCOS in a story flow; They reported how their perceptions of PCOS changed after the training compared to before the training. Participants, as a 'common experience', stated that the skills they learned were supportive in coping with PCOS-related problems. They stated that the DBT skills they benefited the most were acceptance and mindfulness. Participants state that DBT skills help to cope with daily life problems (anxiety management; effectiveness in interpersonal relations) as well as the problems related to PCOS. Research findings recommend the approach of developing DDT-oriented preventive treatment programs tailored for individuals with PCOS
