Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the attitudes of nurses towards evidence-based nursing in terms of various demographic
variables. The population of the study consisted of 900 nurses working in a state hospital in the Central Anatolia region. The
sample of the study consisted of 200 nurses who were participated the study voluntarily by using convenience sampling method.
Quantitative research design was used in the study and the research was descriptive. Attitude towards evidence-based nursing questionnaire, which consist of 15 questions and was developed by Ruzafa-Martinez, Lopez-Iborra and Madrigal-Torres (2011)
and adapted to Turkish by Ayhan, Kocaman and Bektaş (2015), was used as data collection tool. The scale has three subdimensions: belief in evidence-based nursing, intention to apply evidence-based nursing, and feelings towards evidence-based
nursing. The overall internal consistency coefficient of the scale was α = 0.81; the internal consistency coefficients of the three
sub-dimensions were α= 0,85, α = 0,63, α = 0,83, respectively (belief, intention to apply and feelings). In addition to descriptive
analysis, t-test in independent groups and one-way analysis of variance were used because the data showed normal distribution.
As a result of the study, no significant difference was found in the attitudes of the participants towards evidence-based nursing
according to gender, age, education level and follow-up status of nursing publications. In addition to this, it was seen that the
general attitudes and feelings of the participants who made scientific research about nursing were more positive and the
intentions of applying evidence-based nursing were significantly higher than those who did not do scientific research.
