Abstract

The ceramics, which have clay as raw material and continue to exist in our lives since the first ages, have taken place in contemporary art understanding. The ceramic art, which has a two- dimensional superficial design or a three- dimensional wide area, allows new and different expressions. In other words, a new language of expression is created by using alternative materials and alternative surfaces in contemporary ceramics. This expression which is out of the ordinary, far from the classical understanding, gives a different perspective to the ceramics. Dynamical and abstract ceramic forms and alternative materials have their counterparts in many examples with their own creative potential.
The aim of this research is to focus on how alternative materials and alternative surfaces are used in contemporary ceramics by way of interdisciplinary art. The work will be limited to ceramic, wood, metal, glass, waste and natural alternative materials and surfaces. The research will be supported by written and visual source surveys. Ceramics will sometimes be offered as an alternative surface and sometimes as an alternative material
