Abstract

As a result of the rapid urbanization and the decrease of green areas in recent years, new planning and design approaches have been brought to the agenda especially in the cities. One of the planning and design approaches is to increase the urban road transportation of green roads and non-motorized vehicles in urban areas. Therefore, the use of bicycles is widespread in cities. In this research, the interdisciplinary study in the Landscape Architecture Department of Karadeniz Technical University is described. Within the scope of the project, KTÜ BAP FYL 2016-5504 code is planned for the campus users and those living within the boundaries of KTÜ Kanuni Campus. The equipment needed for routes that offer facilities especially for pedestrian and bicycle users are designed together with landscape architect, interior designer and forest industrial engineer students and instructors. Sustainability, multifunctional and applicability criteria were effective in designing products.
The workshop has been very fruitful in terms of teaching staff and students, following a process that brings out the skills of students to develop their creativity, motivate them, put out competitive products and express themselves. 6-7 and 13-14 May 2017, the workshop was successful in terms of participation and final products, and it was worthy of mention for this reason. Within these 4 days; presentations and information’s about the subject, presentation of the area, meeting with the participants, group work, scenario development, alternative options production, visualizations and presentations about the final product were made. The study, which took place two weekends in a row, resulted in an intensive, disciplined and entertaining educational process that included activities such as drama shows, short films and storytelling to enhance the creativity of the students and increase their motivation. As a result, the products obtained during the workshop process were exhibited. In the survey conducted at the exhibition, the most sustainable, most functional and most applicable products were identified. The survey was conducted on 88 people who visited the exhibition. In addition, the first and the last day of the workshop, the survey about the expectations of the participant students and the results were obtained. According to the statistical evaluations of the responses of the 40 participants in the survey, the workshop met the participant expectations of 95%. The scientific committee and the organizing committee were satisfied with the work process and the result products and the participants were successful. 65 participants were given certificates. In this paper, an example of the interdisciplinary study of this workshop as a model, and then the process of exhibition of these products (which is a part of education) is described in detail.
