Abstract

Technology, while making life easier with unlimited use leads to negative effects on people's lives. The nomophobia, recently called the disease of the modern age, highlighted in the media and academia, is defined as fear or anxiety that an individual feels when he is unable to access or communicate with his mobile device. Nomophobia can adversely affect every aspect of a person's life. As mobile phones are widely used especially among university students, nomophobia is seen especially in young people.

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between "Nomofobi" (Fear of Mobile Phone Lackness) levels, "Difficulties in Emotion Regulation" levels and "Academic Achievement" of students of Akdeniz University Manavgat Vocational School in the spring semester of 2017-2018 academic year. The data collected from university students (N=311) by means of Nomophobia Scale, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale and Demographic İnformation Form were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques. According to the findings of the study, female students were found to have higher levels of nomophobia than male students. In addition to this, the findings were revealed that people who tend to nomophobia often control their mobile phones during the day and spend most of their time online, carry a charger and check their mobile phones as soon as they woke up. It was found that there was a statistically positive and significant relationship between the nomophobia levels of students and the levels of difficulties in emotion regulation. There was no statistically significant relationship between the academic achievement of the students and the level of nomophobia and difficulty in emotion regulation
