Abstract

Today's cities have become the centers of activities such as trade, industry, culture and art, and education since the industrial revolution. With this rapid development and transformation, many planning problems arise, on the one hand, cities that become crowded and grow by immigration, on the other hand, become difficult living spaces. Since the traditional methods used to solve these problems are based on personal ideas and do not systematically consider the user or environmental data, they usually solve the problems instantly and may cause problems in the business or in use in the short and long term. On the other hand, with the use of decision support systems, whose use is increasing worldwide, in the planning of the cities we live in, it is seen that instant planning problems in cities can be prevented by presenting a more analytical and data-oriented approach. The rail system in Balıkesir city center, which is discussed within the scope of the study, appears as a planning problem today with this rapid development and transformation in cities. A two-stage planning was made within the scope of the 2014-2023 South Marmara Regional Plan for the transformation of the rail system, which creates a barrier effect in the existing city center, into a light rail system. However, it is understood that the station points determined within the scope of planning were determined based on subjective decisions with traditional methods. This presented study; Emphasizes the importance of using decision-support systems instead of traditional methods in the planning of such a transformation, the question of which decision-support systems can be used during the process, especially in the determination of station locations, is of great importance for the efficient operation of the light rail system, has been focused. In order to examine the decision support system methods used in locating problems in the literature, the bibliometric analysis method, which is used to reveal the current status, orientation and development of the studies related to a discipline, and which provides the opportunity to better analyze the data by classifying them and to reach the required accurate, reliable and sufficient information has been used. In the analyzes performed with this method, the Web of Science database, which is widely used and offers a wide range of data content in many different academic disciplines, was used as the sample area. During the analysis of the data, VosViewer software, which has free access and an easy interface, was used. As a result of the analyzes carried out, it has been determined that GIS techniques and multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches are mostly used in the international literature on site selection. These determinations made on the studies in the literature contributed to the selection of the decision support system that can work with the method to be developed
