This research aims to examine Domenico Scarlatti’s Sonata in F Minor, K. 466, from the perspective of musical analysis and piano performance. Composed for the harpsichord, this piece features counterpoint, ornamentation, and characteristic modulations typical of the Baroque era and is frequently performed on modern pianos today. The research adopts a qualitative research design utilizing descriptive methods and content analysis. The structural form, thematic development, tonal organization, and technical characteristics of the piece have been systematically analyzed. The findings indicate that the sonata is composed in a binary form typical of the Baroque period. The thematic material is introduced in the A section in F minor, modulating to the dominant key, while the B section is expanded with sequences in various tonalities. Scarlatti’s commonly used ornamentation techniques and modulations are identified as elements enhancing the expressive power of the piece. Furthermore, the contrapuntal texture and rhythmic variations present technically challenging passages for performers. From a performance perspective, the study emphasizes the importance of preserving the stylistic characteristics of the Baroque period when performing the piece on a modern piano. It is recommended to limit pedal usage, apply articulations and dynamics in line with the era’s style, maintain tonal balance between the hands, and execute ornaments with stylistic accuracy. Suggestions for technical practice include methods for achieving clarity and fluency in wide leaps and rapid passages. In conclusion, Domenico Scarlatti’s Sonata in F Minor, K. 466, is evaluated as a valuable repertoire piece for pianists from both technical and artistic standpoints. This study is expected to provide comprehensive guidance to pianists and musicologists on the performance and interpretation of the work on the modern piano, contributing to the reinterpretation of Baroque stylistic elements on a contemporary instrument.
