Abstract

Cities in the sustainability and development-based approach have an important place. Turkey as well as in the world of urban population growth is conspicuous continuity. Increasing urban population with a population of urban areas is also understood that this lack of regular distribution. In the new urban space where population mobility towards the periphery has emerged, accessibility to certain basic needs has started to gain importance in the context of sustainable urbanization. The accessibility of educational institutions has an important place in these services. The right to education and hence availability levels of educational institutions, seen as a problem for all city residents beyond the disadvantaged groups. In this study, urbanization, sustainability, and livable cities in the urban context for future generations, Mugla city analyzed levels of accessibility to educational institutions for example. School location selection of locations is discussed aspect is to be accessible. In the study, only public educational institutions were taken into consideration. In the study, the Network Analysis method, which is an analysis suitable for this purpose, was used to reveal accessibility. Using the Arcmap 10.2 package program, building data at the neighborhood scale in the city, kindergarten, playschool, primary school, secondary school, and high school level were analyzed. Accessible areas have been determined by applying network analysis to the distances specified in the Spatial Plans Building Regulation. Also, by obtaining the population data at the age of education at the neighborhood scale, accessibility to educational institutions that potentially could go in the school-age population has been identified. When the locations of educational institutions in Muğla city are examined, it is concluded that these institutions do not spread homogeneously in the city. When looking at the city in general, it is understood that although there are fewer high schools, schools at each level are outside the distance standards according to the relevant legislation. In particular, problems related to benefit from the educational services in some neighborhoods have been evaluated more prominent.
