Abstract

In this study, the relationship between the higher education status of the population in OECD countries and global competition was analyzed with the Westerlund Panel Cointegration Test. In the application part, a panel data set was established for 18 OECD countries covering the period 2004-2018 and reliable data can be accessed. Global Competitiveness Index for global competition; for the higher education status of the population (1) the rate of the population aged 20-24 who are not in education, training or employment, (2) the employment rate of the population aged 25-64 who have received higher education, (3) the unemployment rate of the population aged 25-64 who have graduated from higher education and (4) the rate of the population aged 25-64 who received higher education was used as proxy variables. In this direction, it has been analyzed whether there is any cointegration relationship between each variable representing higher education of the population and the global competition index variable representing global competition. As a result of the research, it has been observed that each variable representing higher education is cointegrated with the global competitiveness index.
