Abstract

The attitudes of teachers towards their profession are of great importance in fulfilling the teaching profession. In this context, the study, the attitudes of physical education teacher candidates the teaching profession various variables (gender, age range, Department, grade level, marital status of parents, monthly income level and status of academic success in terms of the aims to examine. The screening model was used in the research and the sample consisted of 411 candidates of physical education teachers studying in sports sciences at Düzce University, Fırat University and Çukurova University. The participants were given a personal data sheet prepared by the researchers and the ‘attitude scale for teaching’ developed by Erkuş (2000). The data obtained from the scale were transferred to the SPSS 25 package program and descriptive analyses were carried out. Standard deviation is a statistical method, frequency-percent distributions and arithmetic mean; the Man Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used for non-parametric tests. According to the findings, there was no difference in teaching profession attitude scores in terms of gender, age and class levels. It has been found that attitudes towards the teaching profession in terms of the level of parents 'education have increased in parallel with the decline in the level of parents' education. Differences were found in the professional attitudes of teacher candidates according to sections. It was found that participants whose success in school was considered high or medium showed a more positive attitude towards the teaching profession. Attitudes of participants with lower monthly income were found to be more positive than others. As a result, this research revealed that the attitudes of physical education teacher candidates towards the profession were mostly at a “positive” level.
