Abstract

The rapid increase in the world’s population also increases the needs for the population in terms of feeding and sheltering. Especially in developed countries, an urbanization approach is adopted depending on horizontal growth for meeting the accommodation needs, and as a result of this approach, agricultural lands where the feeding needs of the population are met are rapidly being destroyed. This leads to problems in food acquisition and safety.
In the maintenance of the healthy construction of our shared future, considering this predicament and the accommodation-feeding relationship, the article defends the idea that food production should take place in agricultural areas for cities to feed themselves, existing agricultural areas should be used in suitability for their objectives in this process, vertical structuring should be adopted instead of horizontal structuring in this matter. In this concept, by utilizing the relevant literature and the work of international organizations on food safety and assessing the relevant legislation in the context of Turkey, with the purpose of forming sustainable cities that can feed themselves by reducing the urbanization pressure on agricultural lands, it will be possible to form recommendations towards forming “Agriculture-Oriented” cities.
