Abstract

Migration, which essentially means displacement, may seem to be simple phenomenon at first glance, but its causes and consequences leave significant impacts on the individual and society. Therefore, states should take into account the reasons for determining the direction of migration movements and follow appropriate policies so that they can direct the results as desired. The migration movements in Turkey which began about 200 years after those in Europe were mainly the movements of people from rural areas into urban areas until the 1990s. After this date, it can be observed that the movements were generally rural to rural. Because the causes and consequences of migration movements are not examined in detail and appropriate policies were not applied, cities in Turkey has become a large village and countryside has gone into a vicious cycle of underdevelopment. In this study, the factors effecting migration other than economic factors will be revealed in the context of well-being index for provinces that published by TUIK in 2015 and 15 provinces which had the highest net migration rate will be compared. According to the results of data obtained, the importance of factors effecting migration other than economic factors will be discussed and various acceptable proposals will be recommended
