NOMOPHOBIA LEVEL OF GENERATION Z IN TURKEY: GENDER, EDUCATION AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS DIFFERENCES

Abstract

Mobile phone addiction has become more common in everyday life as smartphones come into our lives. Nomophobia (No Mobile Phone Phobia), which is defined as the fear of being deprived of smart phone (inability to communicate and not being able to be online), is seen in all age groups, but it is believed to be more intense especially in Generation Z, which has been born into this technology. In this study, the prevalence of nomophobia in Turkey was put forward using two different sample groups, consisting of high school and college students. According to results, the level of nomophobia of the participants was low or awareness of individuals about this subject can be limited. It was observed that level of nomophobia was higher in females than that of males. The level of nomophobia of college students was found to be higher than that of high school students. And, the level of nomophobia was found to not vary according to the socio-economic environment of the participant
