Abstract

Today's modern organizations are faced with constant change and transformation, forced by technical, social, political and economic factors in the external environment. In the face of these rapidly changing and more uncertain coercive forces, institutions need to define a roadmap that requires them more skills in matters related to the future in order to clearly anticipate their future. Determining such a road map in a change and transformation environment is only possible with a strategic management approach. There is a need for strategically minded, strategically acting and visionary managers in order to successfully implement strategic management, to be prepared for future-based risks and to display management that can keep up with rapid changes. Because depending on the strategic management perception level of the managers, the level of successful implementation of strategic management also varies from institution to institution. This study was carried out in order to reveal the strategic management perceptions of local administrators and Van and Gaziantep metropolitan municipalities were selected as the sample. Van and Gaziantep metropolitan municipality’s administrators were compared in many respects with results of data obtained from the survey study conducted in order to reveal their perceptions on strategic management studies in the institution. In the light of the analyzes made and the findings obtained, it was observed that the strategic management perceptions of the managers of the Gaziantep Metropolitan municipality were higher than the managers of the Van Metropolitan municipality.
