ANALYSIS OF THE 5th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES COURSE BOOK IN TERMS OF CONCEPT TEACHING

This research has been carried out to establish the basic concepts, strategies, and techniques to teach these concepts in the 5th grade Social Studies coursebook. Document analysis design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in this study. The 5th-grade Social studies book is prepared by the Ministry of National Education analyzed and the data obtained are tabulated descriptive analysis method. According to the results of this research, there has been found 113 basic concepts. The expository teaching strategy is mainly used and also narration, question and answer methods are used. Mind mapping is the most commonly used technique. As a suggestion discovery learning and ınquiry learning techniques should be used more often and there should more plenty of activities. In addition, it was stated the use of different concept teaching techniques such as concept puzzles and structured grids, which are not included in the book, is important for effective concept teaching
