DEVELOPMENT OF GEOGRAPHY COURSE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND EVALUATION OF TEACHING ACTIVITY

Abstract

The subject of the study is within the framework of the student-centered, active learning approach of the Geography course; It aims to investigate the effect of geography on learning by creating various materials covering different topics.

According to the constructivist education approach of the geography course, three separate materials were prepared on the determined topics in order to ensure the active participation of the students in the course; The main aim is to provide students with learning that is far from rote, individual, thinking, critical, synthesizer, fun, permanent and teaching students to learn.

In the research carried out with 7th grade students; Subjects were taught with activity-based materials in accordance with the active learning principle to the experimental group, and related subjects were explained to the control group by using plain lecture and question-answer technique, adhering to the traditional method. In the knowledge test, it was found that the experimental group got higher scores than the control group.

It has been determined that designing and using materials in geography lessons makes the learning environment more enjoyable, students participate directly in the learning activity, students follow the lesson more carefully, learning is easier and permanent learning takes place away from memorization. In the control group, where materials are not used in geography lessons, the learning activity is limited to the teacher, since the student is not active.

It shows that academic success will increase if the geography knowledge map puzzle, geography knowledge wheel and geography knowledge tree materials are designed with games and similar activities in accordance with the acquisitions in geography course subjects.
