CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPTS OF LABOR, WORK AND ALIENATION IN CHARLES DEAD OR LIVE FILM

Abstract

Although the concepts of labor and work have different meanings, after the 18th century, the concepts of labor and work were transformed to replace each other. This transformation has a direct relationship with capitalist market sociality. Labor, which is the force of life, is overshadowed by the ideological, cultural and political shaping of the concept of work that produces Exchange value, and its meaning is made equivalent to labor. This situation leads to alienation in the compelling nature of working in the cultural field. Films are one of the most important tools in producing, questioning and changing cultural values. This article will illustrate the alienating effect of forced work in the film universe in the film sample of Charles Dead or Alive (Charles Mortou Vif, 1969) by Alain Tanner, one of the auteur directors of European cinema. In this context, the first part of the article will focus on the use of labor and work concepts in terms of philosophy, and in the second part film analysis will be made throught here presentation of these concepts in the film.
