A STUDY ON COMPOUND VERBS IN OLD ANATOLIAN TURKISH

Abstract

A compound verb is a group of words that corresponds to a single concept and consists of a combination of a noun and an auxiliary verb, two separate verb forms, or one or more words of the noble name and a principal verb. One of the most important features showing the richness of a language is its combining feature. The juxtaposed words create new words in different meanings as a result of the combination and enrich the vocabulary. Old Anatolian Turkish, which is known to exist between the 13th and 15th centuries and constitutes an important part of the Turkish language, forms the basis of the Oghuz Turkish group. It is aimed to determine the combined verb types in the Old Anatolian Turkish according to the structure and semantic features and to reveal the richness of words and expressions based on the five different works bearing the characteristics of this field.
