Abstract

The research aims to examine the attitudes of candidate teachers who have received pedagogical formation education towards
the teaching profession and the geographical region where the university is located, the branch of education, the type of high
school graduated, and gender. The research is descriptive field research designed in a scanning model. The sample of the
research consists of 302 teacher candidates from the branches of physical education, information technologies, history,
mathematics, physics, Turkish language and literature, biology, chemistry and music, who received pedagogical training at
Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University in the academic year 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. The related data were obtained by
applying the “Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession” developed by Tanrıöğen (1997) to the sample group. The scale in
question consists of 52 items and is one-dimensional. According to the findings obtained, the alpha internal consistency
coefficient for the reliability of the scale is 9408. It was concluded that there was no significant difference but there was a
significant difference according to gender and this difference was in favor of female students.
