Western political thought can also be looked at in the direction of philosophies of time and history. In this case, initially, Plato
and Aristotle had a cyclical/circular understanding of time. From there, as for Augustinus, his philosophy of history is
progressive, not circular. Hegel, one of the major figures of Western political thought, changes the content of Augustinus'
philosophy of history. And yet he continues to base progressivism. Marx, in turn, maintains the progressive pattern while
changing the content of the philosophies of history of Augustinus and Hegel. As for the Post-moderns, the philosophies of the
post-moderns would differ from their progressive predecessors, and the view that there was an advance in history would be
rejected.
The aim of this study is to examine the philosophies of time and history in Western political thought. The goal is not to question
time and history as independent philosophical themes. The aim is not to examine all Western philosophies of history. The
fundamental problematics to be analyzed are limited to what kind of philosophy of time and history exists in Western political
thought. In terms of problematics, it can be said that Plato, Aristotle, Augustinus, Hegel, Marx and post-modern thinkers, who
were mainly involved in the study, were thinkers with the ability to represent Western political thought. The study also adopted
a qualitative approach method as a method. Documentary research has been conducted. As a result of the study, it was thought
that there would be findings that would make it possible to examine Western political thought through the philosophies of time
and history.
