UNIVERSITY FRESHMEN’S EXPECTATIONS OF COURSES IN TERMS OF LIFE SKILLS

It is expected that providing young people with quality education and environment will help them to have a healthy development period and prepare for life. University that young people attend during the transition period from adolescence to adulthood in general is important for their personality development and socialisation. There is a need to contribute to individuals' development through curricular and extracurricular activities in educational institutions at every level.
The main aim of this study is to identify how courses can contribute to university students’ development in Turkey and their expectations in this regard. This is a survey study using a 5-point Likert type questionnaire. In the scope of the study, the participants were asked to respond to the question "How important is your expectations from higher education?" Expectations that were marked as “very important” and “important” most were “written and oral expression skills” and “providing skills to take responsibility”. They were followed by “raising social sensitivity”, “providing skills to work together” and “preparing students for different living conditions”, respectively.
