Abstract

One of the most important features of wandering minstrels, who recite their poetry in improvisation with saz (a stringed instrument) in hand and are known and accepted as a building block of national cultural treasury, is undoubtedly their mastery of being able to use language in a natural manner. One of these minstrels is Çıldırlı Âşık Şenlik. Little number of research and analysis has been conducted on the language of Şenlik, who is largely touched upon in the field of Folk Literature and whose minstrelsy has been studied. However, one of the most important characteristics of minstrels is their reflecting language and dialect properties of the community, where they live, to their words and idioms shaped with their words. When considering the rich dialectal features found in the province of Kars where Şenlik lived, the linguistic characteristics of this precious minstrel are important as a subject required to be examined. This study emphasized in detail how pronouns, adjectives, adverbs and prepositions, each of which has a different role in the sentence, were used in poetry of Çıldırlı Âşık Şenlik by considering local and regional dialect features
