Abstract

The general aim of the research is to reveal the sensitivities of teacher candidates towards global issues and to determine their perceptions about global education. In this study, which is designed as a qualitative study, phenomenological research design is used. Maximum diversity sampling method was used in order to maximize the diversity of the individuals who could be a party to the problem studied. In this context, a total of 80 teacher candidates were conducted in Malatya Inonu University and Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Education Social Studies Education Department with 10 participants in each class level (1, 2, 3 and 4 grades). The research data were collected in the 2017-2018 academic year by the standardized open-ended interview form developed by the researcher. This study was supported by İnönü University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit. Research. Analysis of the data collected in accordance with the analysis steps of the phenomenological research, which has a specific analysis process, was carried out. According to the results obtained from the research developments in countries that are neighbours of Turkey, Syria and refugees from the war from other countries, environmental problems, poverty in Africa, the victims in the massacre in the world, terrorism, sexual abuse and the participants for the activities related to education they showed sensitivity. Global education is an effort to reach universal knowledge by the participants, to raise awareness of people through events and news through communication technologies, to educate them to adapt to other cultures and geographies, to facilitate the understanding of the world, to give a wide perspective, to be given in the world It is defined as education based on universal rules. It has been found that these definitions reflect the elements that cover the main themes of global education, such as understanding and accepting multiple perspectives, other cultures and educational systems, understanding the world as an interconnected system, and being informed about global problems
