Abstract

Despite the 44 Turkish films that were released in 2008, 223 foreign films met the audience. 20 million 276 thousand 406
people watched Turkish films, while foreign films were watched by 15 million 936 thousand 426 people. Total revenues of
Turkish films reached 153 million 872 thousand 211 ₺ while foreign films earned 134 million 737 thousand 646 ₺ at the box
office. Sales proceeds; ads given to the lounge, DVD, VCD, soundtrack album sales, televisions, other income such as sold
representation rights cite the economic size of Turkey's movie industry is calculated as ₺ 400 million for 2008. Turkish Films, which had a share of less than 1% of the total audience in 1995, started to attack after 2000 and reached 50% for the first time
in 2006, reaching 51%. 60 with a new record. In 2018, 180 domestic and 257 foreign films were released and 437 films were
released. In 2018, the number of domestic film viewers increased by 11% to 44,616,187 and the total number of viewers was
70,408,244. Total box office revenues increased by 4% compared to the previous year and reached 896 million 780 thousand
TL. The private television in the 1990s with films shown in local cinema have disappeared classical system in Turkey. However,
with the 2000s, the number of spectators started to increase again. The number of cinema audience of over 20 million in 1999,
Turkey has exceeded 70 million in 2018 and is approaching the limit of 1 billion pounds in 2018. While the main factor in this
development in Turkish cinema was the demand of domestic films supported by television stars, the increase in economic
development and the change in the physical structures of the movie theaters, the increase in the quality of service and the
transformation of them into a culture, entertainment and shopping center apart from their classical functions. The aim of this
study is to make inferences about the distance it can cover in the next decade by revealing the last ten years development of
Turkish cinema sector which has grown again after 2000.
