After the Republic of South Africa started to be governed by democracy in 1994, the concept of human rights developed and
the fight against discrimination increased. The discriminatory understanding seen in the apartheid era was replaced by a more
egalitarian structure. In this process, the changing political understanding in the country is reflected in the regulations and
policies for families. In this study, family policies in the Republic of South Africa during the apartheid period, after the apartheid
period and today are examined. The reflection of the changing democracy and human rights in the country to the family policies
is discussed.
