Abstract

The leader with authentic leadership characteristics in the organization; employees should understand their feelings and
thoughts, play an integrative role within the organization, and develop and implement the organizational mission, vision, values
and communication. The evaluation of communication processes plays an important role in examining the productivity of
universities. In this study, the relationship between the authentic leadership of the lecturers and the communication process in
the academic environment was examined.
The data of the study were collected from 36 faculty members from 2 vocational schools of Kocaeli University. In the research,
communication analysis inventory developed by Gizir and Gizir (2005) and original authentic leadership scale developed by
Walumbwa et al. (2008) were used as data collection tools. The data were evaluated in SPSS 16.0. Academic communication
skills of middle school and authentic leadership levels were found to be high. It is concluded that there is a positive relationship
between authentic leadership and academic communication skills.
