Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the qualifications that teachers have and should have according to the opinions of
school administrators working in primary, secondary and high school educational institutions in Siirt province. A case study
design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The study group consisted of 33 school administrators
working in primary, secondary and high school education institutions in Siirt province. As a data collection tool, a semistructured interview form prepared by the researchers was used. Content analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data
obtained from the interview forms. According to the opinions of the school administrators, the most prominent features in terms
of the positive qualities of the teachers were found in the field knowledge category “being an expert in the field”, professional
qualification category “being student-oriented” and personal qualification category “being hard working”. In terms of the
negative qualifications of the teachers, it is determined in the occupational qualification category “creating a disciplinary
problem” while in the personal qualification category “late class entry”. In addition, the prominent features in terms of the
qualifications that teachers should have were in the field knowledge category “specialization in the field”, professional
qualification category “student-oriented” and personal qualification category “being hardworking”. At the end of the research,
various suggestions were made to improve teacher qualifications.
