THE IMPORTANCE OF PRIVATE SECTOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (R&D) ACTIVITIES AND DEVELOPMENT IN TURKEY

Abstract

Research and Development (R & D) activities carried out by the experts in the field consciously and systematically in order to
increase the existing knowledge and use this to design new products, processes, systems and applications. It is only possible to
produce products with high added value, to reduce costs to a minimum and thus survive in the global market through R & D
activities. For all these reasons, private sector enterprises, which most feel the global competition, allocate a significant amount
of resources for R & D activities, although they involve risky, large consistent and long-term investments.
Aimed at the importance of private sector R & D expenditure in Turkey and to put forth dimensions are given information
about R & D activities in this study. Also within the scope of the study, European Statistical Office (Eurostat) and the Turkey
Statistical Institute (TUIK) 's detailed statistical information compiled from official website regarding R & D spending and R
& D personnel they employ private sector businesses operating in Turkey are presented and evaluation is done on the subject.
