Quality function deployment (QFD) is an approach of designing a product or service that enables to specify precisely the
demands and necesitties of users and integrate the specified criteria into technical requirements in the beginning of the planning
and development process. In industrial countries, this approach has been applied in the construction field for product
development. This study aims to investigate the application areas of QFD in construction field. In order to see the current
strategies, the literature review and the applied examples in the construction sector about the QFD method were evaluated.
According to the results obtained from the literature review, it can be concluded that there is not much awareness exist for QFD
in the construction sector. According to the data obtained, it is observed that the applications in the field of architecture are
generally focused on housing design, project, and construction processes, material selection, building performance evaluation,
sustainable and green buildings, and the number of examples applied in public projects is not much. The benefits of the
implementation of QFD in the construction sector were mentioned and examples of the method being used more effectively by
combining it with other quality methods and analysis systems were examined. There has been limited preceding study on the
use of QFD in the construction sector, hence this paper demonstrates that implementation of QFD method in construction
industry by examining the current literature.
