The current information-oriented economic changes and developments are increasing the importance of intellectual and industrial property rights even more. The reason for this is that, while determining the development status of a country, the proportion of the national income, which is allocated for R&D as well as for design, patent, utility model and trademark rights, registered at home and abroad, counts in particular as the main indicator. In this sense, according to the Annual Report 2018 of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, a total of 7,349 national patent applications, 120,008 trademark applications and 41,567 design applications were filed to TÜRKPATENT from the end of 2018. However, it should be taken into account that it is not sufficient to increase only the number of applications and registrations; the designs and patents created must also be transferred to industrial production by technology transfer in order to produce medium-high, high-tech and high-value-added products. In this context, the importance of the designs, which emerge as the results of the activities carried out and supported by TÜRKPATENT, is better understood.
In this study, design, the subventions provided to design and the vision regarding the future of design in our country are discussed.
