Abstract

In today's world, which we call the age of informatics, risks for individual data privacy are increasing day by day in online platforms. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between virtual world risk perception and online privacy anxiety levels. Quantitative research design was used in the study and it was applied to Selçuk University students. In the research, the Virtual World Risk Perception Scale developed by Arslankara and Usta (2018) and the Online Privacy Anxiety Scale, validated and reliable in Turkish by Alakurt (2017), were used. Data were collected from 406 students by an online questionnaire and t-test, One-way ANOVA and Pearson Correlation test were performed in Independent Groups. According to the findings of the study, the risk perception of male students; privacy concerns of female students were higher. A negative negative correlation was found between virtual world risk perception and privacy anxiety. As a result, it has been found that there is a concern about the risks and privacy related to the internet, whose usage rate increases day by day.
