MEMMED SEID ORDUBADI AND ARMANIANS IN A HISTORICAL NOVEL "BLOOD YEARS" (KANLI SENELER)

Abstract

Memmed Seid Ordubadi is a novelist, poet, journalist, play-writer, statesman and a talented representative of Azerbaijan literature. By drawing attention with his successful historical novels, he is considered to be the founder and most important representative of historical novels in Azerbaijan. Ordubadi, as a member of Molla Nasreddin literary school, deals with problems of ignorance, education and superstition in his poems. In his works he strongly criticized from a social realistic point of view the disruptions he faced. The 4-volume Tabriz Dumanlı Tebriz, which describes the social and political events that took place in the South of Azerbaijan, the centre of which was Tabriz between 1906 and 1911, is one of his most important novels. His novel Bedbext Milyonçu yaxud Rızaqulu Xan Firengimeab reveals the social life of Azerbaijan of that time and contains important critiques. His works Döğüşen Şeher, Gizli Bakı, Dünya Deyişir which depict the changes and political events of 1890-1920 in Azerbaijan are also among the examples of successful novels.
The book of Ordubadi Qanlı Seneler hasn’t lost its actuality and demand since the year it was written in. The Qanli Seneler, a historical work, which describes Turkish-Armenian issue that erupted in Azerbaijan in 1905-1906. At the period when the Armenians were conducting massive attacks Turks sent letters from the occupied and attacked regions explaining the situation and asking for help from the Russian government and others. Totally 245 letters were gathered by journalists and sent to Ordubadi and in these letters one by one we can find the description of exile, terrorism and massacres conducted by Aremenians in Turkish villages, towns and cities. Writing the book the author researched numerous of written materials and more than 400 newspaper reports. Through this work it was proved that the Russian government supported Armenians at that period of time. Even more than 110 years since those bloody events the fact that Western countries and Armenians are still using the same scenario attracts attention.
