Abstract

In this study, the expectations of classroom and science teaching students, who are receiving their education at the faculty of education, from their instructors on using information technology in terms of various variables have been determined and evaluated. The purpose of the study is to determine the expectations of students receiving education in two different teaching areas which have numeric and verbal foundations from different grades from their instructors in terms of technological tools and equipments whose use in classes are inevitable for today’s education. In this study, which aims at displaying the expectations of the students from their instructors in terms of use of technology, the screening model has been used. The study group of the study consisted of freshmen and junior students from Classroom Teaching and Science Teaching Departments at the Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam Üniversitesi in the 2016-2017 academic year. The study group consists of 210 students who were selected through the purposeful sampling method. In the study, ‘Use of Technology Preference Survey’ which was developed by Apperson, Laws and Scepansky (2006), translated into Turkish by Erdemir and Bakırcı (2016) was used to collect data; the original survey was added 10 more items and its Cronbach Alpha value was determined as. 89 after its validity and reliability studies were completed. In the study, the SPSS 22 packaged software was used for the analysis of numerical data. According to the results of the study, the expectations of the classroom teaching or science teaching students from their instructors in terms of using technology did not change. Similarly, their expectations did not change in accordance with their grades either. In addition, the difference between the students’ duration of using technology by themselves did not create any difference in their expectations from their instructors. However, when the results were analyzed in terms of gender, a significant difference was found in the favor of the female students.
