Abstract

Collaboration is a phenomenon required to achieve individual as well as institutional goals. Business employees have to work in collaboration in almost all of the operations in businesses by enabling coordination. Achieving the collaboration has been facilitated via the use of collaboration technologies. Today, a great deal of collaboration technologies and applications enable employees to work together. Thanks to different types of collaboration technologies, employees synchronously communicate to each other and complete tasks in some cases, while they are also able to asynchronously work without communicating at the same time. In this way, there are many institutional as well as individual benefits obtained from these technologies. The objective of the current study is to examine the association between the types of collaboration technologies and the benefits obtained from them. More specifically, we test whether the use of synchronous and asynchronous collaboration technologies have any impact on institutional and individual benefits. The findings reveal that there is a positive and significant association between synchronous collaboration technology use and institutional benefits, while asynchronous collaboration technology use positively and significantly influence individual benefits.
