THE VITAL SUBJECT OF RUSSIAN LITERATURE: HOW AND WHY POOR LISA KILLED HERSELF

Abstract

Death, which allows us to understand the meaning and importance of existence and which is an integral part of it, is one of the most fundamental subjects always discussed in various ways in literature. Especially, as a result of different perspectives brought by the Enlightenment period, an increase in the orientation towards the Ancient Age, where it is considered an extremely heroic behavior to end your own life with your own consent, the subject of suicide began to occupy a big place in world literature. One of the first examples in which the theme of suicide is reflected in the most striking way in Russian literature is Nikolay Karamzin's Poor Liza (Бедная Лиза). After the publication of this work, which is the first story that the hero of the story killed himself, many similar works started to be revealed in Russian literature. In the story of Poor Liza, influenced by Goethe's Pain in Young Werhter, describes a rather simple and unhappy love story between a a young peasant girl and a nobleman, which is often seen in the centimist movement. In this study, it is tried to give the fight against love adventure of a peasant and a pure young girl, which Lisa knows that will not be accepted by the society, suicide phenomenon, the social structure of the period and the author's perspective on these issues
