THE PYGMALION EFFECT AT SCHOOL

Studies have shown that individuals who have expectancy about others can change their behaviours, expectancy and performance by means of this expectancy. The phenomenon is known as “ Self-fulfilling prophecy” asserts that consistent behavior corresponding with one’s expectancy has powerful effect on behaviors of others. In this context, the expectancy of education personnel has strategic importance. According to the researches having high or positive expectations of people will produce positive results (Pygmalion Effect), having negative or low expectations of people will produce negative results (Golem Effect).The main purpose of this research is to determine Pygmalion and Golem tendency of teachers and directors working in primarily schools. In order to obtain data , “Pygmalion Perception Index” of Eden (2000) were used in the research. At the end of research, findings showed that both teachers and directors have Pygmalion perception. Besides, it was observed that the Pygmalion perception of teachers is higher than Golem perception
