Abstract

It is called a wooden or cardboard cover that is placed on the outside of the spreads to protect the book and keep the pages together. Nowadays, the cover has become a graphic design product that transmits the content of the book to the relevant audience through visual design. The fact that the texts and visual elements in the cover design reflect the content of the book will increase the attractivity and understandable features of the book. At this point, the book cover can be considered a new field of use for typography.

In this study, the place, effect, and importance of typography in the development process of book cover design will be examined. The starting point of this study was the use of typography, which is one of the sines qua non of book covers, as a design tool. By scanning domestic and foreign sources, the relationship between the history of cover design and typography was evaluated by the literature review method. As a result; Considering the technological innovations, it has been concluded that the cover design and typographic elements will develop more and more in the future.
