Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to examine the sociological dimension of the relationship between the disabled and the family in terms
of home care services through the İzmir example. The study was carried out using the qualitative research method which is
widely used in sociology. The population of the study is composed of individuals with disabilities who are members of the
Engelsiz Yaşam Derneği, which operates in Izmir and Gaziemir. In this respect, purposeful sampling technique has been
considered suitable as sampling technique. In-depth interviews were conducted with 8 female and 4 male participants, 12 in
total. Descriptive method was used in the analysis of the data obtained from the interviews. The findings obtained from the
data are evaluated in terms of psychological, economic and social care themes. As a result, home care services are becoming a
priority issue for disabled and elderly people, especially for elderly people with disabilities. The fact that the responsibility of
caring for the disabled in society is mostly placed on the family reflects a contradictory state of social state. In this respect, it
is important that home care services become widespread and institutionalized.
