SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE POPULATION IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS AND VILLAGES OF ESKISEHIR IN 1844-1845

In this study, it was tried to reveal the population data for between the years 1844-1845 of Eskişehir township, which was
connected to the district Governorate of Bilecik in the Province of Hüdavendigar in the middle of the 19th century. The main
source of the study is Temettuat Registers which are recorded between 1844-1845 in Eskişehir township. In classification of
the Ottoman Archives of the Prime Ministry (BOA), Eskişehir Temettuât Registers are located in the Ministry of Finance, the
Revenues Accounting, the Temettuat Registers (ML. VRD. TMT. d.). A total of 31 temettuat registers which were belonging
to 5 neighborhoods and 26 villages were examined. The total number of pages in these registers is 854. In the books contain
information on the social structure such as population data, the name of the head of the household, the nickname, the family
name and the occupational status, as well as information on the economic structure of the households such as land, property,
and livestock. Within the scope of the study, the number of households in the neighborhoods and villages of Eskişehir township
is given and estimated population data are presented. Thus, it was aimed to have an idea about the population of Eskişehir in
the middle of the 19th century.
