RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SACRALIZATION PROCESS AND SPATIAL MEMORY in DARK TOURISM

Abstract

This study is about the dark tourism, which is a sub-concept of cultural tourism. Development of dark tourism, which has a mission to carry the past feats to the future, is very important in terms of transferring these historical values to future generations through visual memory. In this study, which emphasizes the preservation, arrangement and renewal of spaces in order to increase the recognition of the existing potential in the international cultural arena, descriptive screening method has been used and the data have been collected by document examination technique. MacCannell's five stages in the sacralisation process have been associated with spatial memory and examined on the most known and visited Gallipoli Historical National Park in terms of Dark Tourism. According to the findings, cultural and architectural elements and living museums in the future martyrdom, memorial park and national park areas will be important in terms of their sustainability.
