IMPACT OF FACEBOOK ON PRODUCTION OF HATE SPEECH AND GETTING INTO CIRCULATION OF HATE CRIMES AND AN OUTLOOK ON FACEBOOK USAGE PRACTICES

Abstract

Together with the advancements in Internet technology, social media, and social networking sites/platforms have gained a place in our daily lives as a conspicuous new phenomenon. In this context, Facebook comes to the fore as it has the highest number of users in social media. Because of that feature, it can probably be seen as the most influential platform. In this study, the impact of Facebook on the production of hate speech and getting into circulation and getting around of hate crimes and usage practices were examined. How and to whom users/actors or groups develop hate speech, and how hate propaganda or extreme speech work are handled by examples. Also, to determine the point differentiation of hate speech and hate crimes, how the legal regulations and the content are about hate speech and hate crimes in Turkey, European Union Law, and the US National Legislation were dwelt on. Groups and personal pages examined in our study were handled by using content analysis. On Facebook-based Facebook, it is concluded that hate speech has the opportunity to spread.
